So a lot of people have been hitting us up wanting to know a bit more about K.ONE. So, here’s the 411 on the latest signing to Illegal Musik.

Now if you’ve followed the underground Hip-Hop scene you may or may not of crossed paths with K.ONE. It seems to be a breeding ground for some incredible talent, in years gone by the likes of David Dallas, PNC, Mareko, Scribe to name a few have entered through these avenues and become some of the country’s most prolific MC’s.

It was through these channels that we at Illegal Musik caught a glimpse of K.ONE who captivated our ears with his story telling ability. Over countless emails and calls between K.ONE and Patriarch (Illegal Musik) his demo’s were worked to a stage to present to the rest of the team and once we got to check these tracks – you could say we discovered ‘The Future’.

At the same time as the demo’s were put on the table a window opened up on the DJCXL track “My Love’ (The Remix) and we wanted to add a new dynamic alongside the virtuoso – Scribe and K.ONE delivered pure heat on his verse.

I’d say this was the turning point for us and we needed to get the kid from Masterton up here and grindin in the studio. Four months on it’s probably one of the best decisions made on both sides, burning the candle at both ends he keeps surprising us with his ability to switch things up. Live shows (all over NZ), countless recording sessions and features on two new releases from the stable.

• And to mark his arrival he drops his debut single ‘Never’ feat Junipah

NZ Music Month is coming up in May and Illegal rockers Junipah are launching it in style with a gig at Auckland Uni’s Shadows Bar on Saturday night, the 1st of May.

The venue opens from 8pm and Junipah will be onstage around the 10:30pm mark – don’t miss it!
